Week 14 - Welcome aboard š³
Hello, Iām Mark. I started at Made Tech this week as a Lead Designer. Being one of the first permanent designers hired for the team.
Being one of the first pair of boots on the ground can be interesting from past experiences especially whilst we are all still working remotely.
Welcome aboard š³
Made Tech onboarding process has been really smooth so far if not a bit too focused on software engineering.
So I've been doing a lot of thinking and note-taking around how we can iterate our onboarding for UCD people and how we can distil design values within the onboarding process for everyone, even though I think Made Techās core values are very closely linked to core design values.
Not getting ahead of myselfĀ
I've been really excited about starting this new role for a while and lots of ideas and things I want to advocate for and set in motive like helping designers with different backgrounds than myself learn how to collaborate in code.
I don't want to get too ahead of myself, we have lots of time to do all these things and start to sharp a brilliant community of designers within Made Tech
First TimerĀ
Officially being a āLead Designerā is a role Iām new too. Iāve been brushing up on my management skills by listening to The Making of a Manager: What to Do When Everyone Looks to You by Jujle Zhuo Ā (thanks again for the book Harry). Iām looking forward to supporting other designers with their career goals and growth.
Jab me up šĀ
Vaccines are finally available to under the 30s soĀ me (and half a million others) booked my vaccine dose on Tuesday, apart from waiting in a queue for half an hour and the most internet falling over. The services itself is super easy to use, doesnāt ask for any irrelevant information and you get a nice reminder by SMS at the end. Brilliant work! I canāt imagine how crazy the design process for that service was so hats off!
That's all for nowĀ
That's all. I mainly just wanted to say hello and introduce myself to all of you.
Have a great weekend šĀ
